ISTA releases new standard: ISTA 6-Amazon.com

Micom offers ISTA 6-Amazon.com testing as part of its Package testing services. ISTA 6-Amazon.com – Packaged Products for Amazon.com Distribution System Shipment – is a test used for simulating Amazon.com’s shipping environment. This test was released as an ISTA project in October 2014.

ISTA 6-Amazon.com is for packages weighing more than 70 lbs shipped initially palletized or floor loaded by suppliers to Amazon.com and then delivered to final customers via Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) or parcel delivery systems.

ISTA 6-Amazon.com covers packaged-products shipped palletized or not and covers different handling types:

Initially Shipped Palletized:

  • Type A: Individual Packaged-Products for Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) Delivery
  • Type B: Individual Packaged-Products for Parcel Delivery 70 kg (150 lb) or Less

Initially Shipped Floor-Loaded:

  • Type C: Individual Packaged-Products for Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) Delivery
  • Type D: Individual Packaged-Products for Parcel Delivery 70 kg (150 lb) or Less

Each packaging type test protocol is a combination of static and dynamic tests with stress levels that were established based on field measurements done throughout Amazon’s distribution pipelines. SO you will find the typical drop, vibration, stability and bridge impact tests but also for category D a horizontal clamping test that very few test labs but Micom are equipped to do properly.

We understand Amazon still accepts testing done to ISTA 3A  but will start requiring testing to their new standard within 8-24 months.
