ASTM D6625 standard now offered at Micom Laboratories

Micom Laboratories is proud to announce that it now offers the ASTM D6625 standard as part of its UV testing services . This method describes a procedure which allows to assess the protective behavior of a polish film through the use of UV exposure, heat and moisture. Indeed, this methodology is centered on a periodical evaluation of the gloss attribute of the sample as a means to characterize this property.

ASTM D6625 test

The objective of ASTM D6625 is to appraise the shielding ability of a polish towards decaying occasioned by sunlight and humidity through an accelerated weathering test. The latter consists on simulating the deterioration caused by UV radiations and moisture by exposing the sample to a structured cycle composed of phases of condensation and fluorescent UV exposure. To summarize, this simulation replicates the characteristics of an outdoor environment by exposing the protected and the unprotected area of the specimen to test conditions that are maintained inside of an apparatus as a means to study the protective capacity of a polish on a hasten basis. Furthermore, the gloss of each section is periodically monitored throughout the entire length of the exposure as a means to observe the evolution of this attribute. Lastly, it is important to state that test protocol does not provide a correlation which can be used to envision the performance of the specimen into the field. However, the latter may serve as a tool to appraise the relative performance of the sample towards other polishes subjected to the same test conditions.
