ASTM F2825 standard now offered at Micom Laboratories

Micom laboratories is delighted to announce that it now offers the ASTM F2825 standard as part of its environmental testing services. This practice provides the necessary test conditions which replicate the characteristics of the expected conditions of the storage and distribution system of the specimen. More particularly, this simulation assesses the ability of the container to withstand and protect its contents from climatic stress. Lastly, this test protocol may be considered as an accelerated aging test due to the fact that it attempts to portray, after a few hours of exposure, the behavior of a parcel packaging that is used for an overnight or a two-day delivery.

ASTM F2825 test

The goal of ASTM F2825 is to characterize the performance of a packaging system that is faced against climatic stresses. In other words, this practice evaluates, under controlled climatic conditions, the ability of the container to withstand and protect its contents from the expected climatic stresses in its distribution. In fact, the conditions of the exposure are based on the projected distribution climatic stress and time of exposure as a means to represent as accurately as possible the actual distribution. Also, it is important to mention that this test protocol does not specify acceptance criteria, because the goal of this exposure is to condition the sample for the assessment of its attributes. Consequently, it is necessary to pair this practice with a performance test or to pre-establish the acceptance criteria in order to appraise the attributes of the sample. Lastly, this method is designed to assess the properties of parcels that are to be delivered within a day or two. Hence, using this standard for packages that do not comply with this criterion will lead to erroneous results.

Micom offers polymer testing services for a wide selection of material and products. For more information about the ASTM F2825 test, we invite you to contact our material testing laboratory today. It will be our pleasure to answer your questions about either of those tests.

Micom Laboratories is a third party industrial material testing laboratory accredited by the Standards Council of Canada, CGSB, ISTA and many other organizations.
