Furniture Testing News

Government of Canada released Letter of Interest (LOI) for its new procurement policy on office furniture excluding seating and High density storage including information on what will be its furniture testing . PWGSC wants to include in the same Consolidated Procurement Instrument (CPI) panel systems, Freestanding furniture and storage cabinets. The standards used in the CPI will be BIFMA X5.5, BIFMA X5.6, BIFMA X5.9, CAN/CGSB 44.227 and CAN/CGSB 44.229.

This LOI describes en Industry engagement process they want to follow with the furniture industry as well as how they want to articulate their procurement policies for office furniture. There will be one-on-one meetings organized where the industry can meet individually with PWGSC representatives to express their issues and ask questions.

Micom will definitively meet with PWGSC to review their technical requirements.

Meeting with PWGSC:

For the record; Micom ended up meeting with the PWGSC representatives in Gatineau.  Our overall impression was that the technical people were opened to our observations and comments.  The discussion was overall very cordial and we got the clear impression that the participants understood well the issues we raised. It remains to be seen what management will do with our recommendations…
