Quality Testing Starts with Quality Water: Inside Micom Laboratories’ Demineralization System
At Micom Laboratories, precision is everything. Whether we are putting materials through accelerated aging, UV weathering, or salt spray tests, the accuracy of our results depends heavily on the foundational elements of our facility.
Often overlooked, the most critical baseline element in our facility is water purity.
Why Water Quality Matters in Material Testing
Using untreated municipal tap water for laboratory material testing introduces variable ions and contaminants that can skew outcomes, leave residue on specimens, and compromise test repeatability. To uphold our accreditation standards (ISO/IEC 17025, GEN-001, etc.) and deliver dependable data, our testing protocols demand absolute consistency starting with the water we use.
Behind the Scenes: Our Demineralization Water System
To maintain absolute consistency, Micom operates an industrial-grade reverse osmosis system and a demineralized water production system. Our multi-stage purification sequence comprises:
- Carbon Filtration: Removes chlorine, volatile organic compounds, and particulate impurities.
- Water Softening: Utilizes dedicated salt blends to remove calcium and magnesium ions, effectively mitigating water hardness.
- Reverse Osmosis (RO): Employs semi-permeable membranes to filter out the vast majority of dissolved solids up to 90%.
- Ion Exchange Resin: Polishes the water to achieve high-purity demineralized standards; less than 0.1 ppm.
Daily Operations and Monitoring
Our commitment to quality control doesn’t stop at installation. Our technical team measures water quality daily, tracking key performance parameters—including pH, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and silica levels—to ensure the water chemistry remains entirely neutral as to never interfere with sensitive testing environments.
- Capacity: Our primary storage reservoir maintains a continuous supply of 1,000 liters of purified water.
- Consumption: Active laboratory operations utilize approximately 800 liters of demineralized water daily.
Delivering Reliable Results Worldwide
From the specialized salt blends used in our pre-treatment softeners to the daily parameter checks, every step in our utility chain is managed with intent. By maintaining robust internal infrastructure, Micom Laboratories ensures that every client receives reliable, accurate, and defensible test results.
Put Our Laboratory Quality Systems to Work for Your Project
Reliable testing begins with controlled laboratory conditions and produces clear, defensible results.
At Micom Laboratories, our demineralized water system supports several of our core material testing services, including corrosion testing, humidity exposure testing, and accelerated weathering and UV testing. By carefully controlling water purity, our laboratory helps protect test consistency and reduce the risk of contaminants affecting results.
