A new version of ANSI/BIFMA X5.6 – Panel Systems – tests – was released last week, on January 8th, by the Business Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA). This standard is a new edition that replaces the 2010 version. As its previous edition this standard aims at providing a common evaluation basis for panel systems from a safety, durability and mechanical standpoint. Various types of tests are employed:
- Static loads
- Dynamic loads
- Durability/cyclic tests
Panel systems are complex in nature but not all parts and sizes thereof need to be tested to establish compliance; a worst-case product analysis need to be performed to assess which parts/configurations should be tested.
