Micom Laboratories is proud to announce that it now offers the ASTM D4329 as part of its offering for UV testing services. ASTM D4329 is aimed at three large applications: general use, automotive and polymer building products. Since it is based on practice ASTM G154, this test method is employed for performing accelerated aging on polymers to assess their capacity to uphold their mechanical properties. These include: flexibility, tensile and elongation along with other properties.
While testing to this test method, you should keep in mind the following:
- To the extent possible, test your product side-by-side with a similar material with a known field history (control).
- At multiple time intervals, monitor your product’s performance by measuring relevant mechanical properties. Doing so, it will provide you with a better understanding of your product’s behavior. It will also help you extrapolate its performance as a function of time to some extent.
While this test method uses a fluorescent light source, other practices, for instance ASTM G155, use Xenon Arc UV light sources. Both of these UV light sources are used to predict the effect of sunlight exposure, either outdoor or indoor, on your product on an accelerated basis.
